Exclusive: You Could Win Christina Aguilera’s Dress from Her New Fragrance Campaign!
Christina Aguilera recently launched a fragrance that holds a very special place in her heart. The new scent, called Woman ($37; kohls.com), features a heady mix of floral and vibrant fruit notes. And to Aguilera, they embody the strength and fortitude of women.
“I created Woman as a fragrance that celebrates the woman inside all of us,” the Voice judge tells InStyle. “I want to empower women to feel powerful and sensual as this will inspire them to free their ultimate femininity.” One of the notes—magnolia—is especially symbolic to Aguilera. “What makes it so important to me is that it is seen as a life source and is representative of beauty, fertility, perseverance and perfection,” she says.
In the Woman campaign, shot by Mark Liddell, Aguilera looks gorgeous in a white Maria Lucia Hohan stunner (which she also work to the American Music Awards). And now the dress could be yours because the singer is giving it away to one lucky fan. Just tweet us @InStyle and tell us the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given and use the hashtag #InStyleXtinaDress for a chance to win the gown! You’ll be returning as a judge for Season 8 of The Voice—what are you most excited to see this season?
After taking some time away to focus on music, travel and being a mother I feel revived and am really excited to return to The Voice. Making music is my true passion and working with contestants who are just at the beginning of their careers reminds me of where I started. It is so inspiring to me. I am also looking forward to working again with our amazing family of judges. We have such a great time together. Pharrell and I have known each other a long time as well and he brings such a wonderful calm energy to the team.
You experimented with so many fun hair colors and styles last time you were a judge. Can we expect to see your red hue again?
I don’t put too much attention or pressure to different styles and looks—I just like to reinvent constantly. When I look back at the different styles I’ve had over the years, I’m proud of myself that I had the bravery to experiment with so many different hairstyles and colors. I always find myself coming back to platinum blonde—as a woman it makes me feel strong, glamorous, and empowered. But never say never.
Congratulations on your daughter Summer! What is one piece of beauty advice you plan to pass on to her?
I want my daughter to focus on being happy and to understand that beauty truly does come from within. I want her to know that there is nothing more beautiful than a woman who is empowered and knows what she wants and works to get it. But we have time for that, right now we are just enjoying her every moment.
What is the best piece of beauty advice you’ve been given?
The very simple basic things you hear from everyone sadly are really true. Rest, moisturize, and always remove makeup before bed. Especially in my business where we wear makeup daily—it’s so important to let your skin rest and breathe.
How has being a mother of two changed your beauty routine?
When I’m at home being a mom, I love to be comfortable in my sweatpants and cozying up with my children. As a mom, there aren’t always as many opportunities to get dolled up so I really make sure to enjoy the opportunities to play with my look and be glamorous! I’ll add some extra eye makeup, spray a special fragrance, or put my hair up to add a bit of drama—anything that makes me feel feminine and sexy.
Your style has changed so much since your start in the ’90s. Are there any particular looks you’d ever revisit?
I love change and have fun reinventing myself constantly. I think my bold sense of self-confidence is why I prefer an Old Hollywood glam look most: platinum blonde hair and the perfect red lip show glamour and pure feminine beauty. That’s not to say I won’t switch it up again when I’m in the mood to try something new.
Are there any ’90s/early 2000s trends you’d like to see make a comeback? Are there any you wish hadn’t made a comeback?
I have had so much fun experimenting with different looks and never really followed trends. I like to always get dressed in a way that makes me feel powerful and sensual. As I’ve grown I’ve become more comfortable with who I am as a woman. When a woman is more in touch with herself she is able to convey more self-confidence and sensuality and it won’t go unnoticed.
Tell us about the new fragrance—what inspired the new scent?
This fragrance is really true to who I am as a person today. I’ve always made choices based on how I really feel, and understanding what makes me feel glamorous and more sensual. This is what I tried to do with Woman, to have it stand out in the crowd as a feminine smell that instills a reassuring sense of self-confidence. I chose ingredients with a defined character, intense colors and scents reminiscent of a woman’s elegance and inner strength. Magnolia is the base note within the fragrance, with fruity influences of pears and pineapples to bring a fresh and feminine touch. Magnolia has a long history of representing a life source, beauty, fertility and perseverance, which are all amazing parts of being a woman. Musk is there too: It’s a signature note in all my fragrances.
How did you choose to call it Woman?
My fragrances always have the message of taking pride in who you are as a woman, so what better title this time around than to call it Woman? Woman is a simple name but so rich in meaning. It conveys the importance of having a strong sense of self and femininity. I wanted to go to the essence of the woman’s nature and that fascinating mix of sensuality we have inside to help women connect with themselves on a deeper level. Every woman is unique and what I love most about fragrance is that every woman can make it her own. It’s important for us all to stick together and support each other and our individuality. I also wanted all women to know that its OK to be sexy.
Tell us about the Maria Lucia Hohan dress. Have you been a fan of her styles for a long time?
The white dress we chose by Maria Lucia Hohan made me feel so feminine and glamorous the moment I first tried it on. Her designs are fresh and delicate, but also sensual and utterly seductive which is the same feeling I want the campaign to provide for all women. Tying in white magnolia was also important for me, so the crisp white and delicate silk texture connected perfectly with the flower. I loved the dress so much that I wore it again to the American Music Awards!
